Graduate School of Education
We are leaders in Initial Teacher Education. Our unique approach to teaching PGCE is praised by OFSTED and cited as an example of best practice on their website.
All our tutors have real-world experience as teachers, senior managers or OFSTED inspectors.
Our unique approach gives you opportunities to learn and become part of a community who are passionate about education, and will support you during your course and beyond.
Recognised by the TDA and Ofsted as an outstanding provider of Early Years, Primary and Secondary initial teacher education
By learning on campus for most of the first term you access the tools to rapidly build professional knowledge to underpin your work in school placements.
Based on the University’s St Luke’s campus, we have been providing teacher training courses for over 150 years. Through outstanding Ofsted and TA ratings, we are recognised as one of the top initial teacher training providers.

Come to an Open Day

We regularly host Open Days where you can visit our campus, meet our tutors and learn more about our PGCE courses.
Early Years and Primary

The Exeter Primary PGCE programme is unique. Instead of offering a generic programme, we offer specialisms in Art, English, Humanities, Mathematics, Modern Languages, Music, and Science.
Secondary PGCE

Following a recent Ofsted inspection, the Exeter Secondary PGCE programme was deemed to be outstanding and was rated as grade 1 in all aspects of its provision.

School-based work

School-based work is an important part of our PGCE programmes and all of our partner schools have specially trained school-based tutors who assist trainees in learning to teach.
