Government DfES research steering committees member. Witness to House of Commons Select Committee on Special Educational Needs 2006. Member of reference group Lamb Inquiry into SEN (2008-09). Represented England on European Agency for Special Needs education development project on National indicators for SEN legislation (2008). Invted contribution to the Ofsted national review of special educational needs (2009)

External examine Masters and PhDs nationally: Universities of Cardiff, Cambridge, Warwick, Bradford, Hull, Institute of Education, Leicester, Dundee and London University
