Dr Ian Maun
Honorary University Fellow

Dr. Ian Maun is a retired Senior Lecturer who was on the University staff from 1999 until 2009. He was Subject Leader for Modern Foreign Languages on the PGCE course, teaching French and German. His research work was on reading and text-simplification in foreign languages and his recent work (Francophonie, 2011-2012) includes papers on style and rhetoric in French. He is currently researching the use of symbolic languages as a support to language-teaching. This has led him to examine the 17th-century notion of a 'Real Character' and to apply it to computer-mediated communication (See Journal of Universal Language, March 2013). His research interests thus overlap languages, history, IT and design. He is also writing a history of 18th-century cricket.
