Overview

Pallavi joined the University of Exeter in 2016. She teaches quantitative methods alongside other postgraduate courses and supervises doctoral students. 

She is currently working on two externally funded research projects. One of these is funded by the ESRC and evaluates the fairness of admissions in the UK higher education sector. The other project is funded by the Office for Students (OFS) and examines differential outcomes for BTEC students at the university. The 'Transforming Transitions' project addresses barriers to success in the educational trajectories of BTEC students between college and university and involves designing interventions to overcome these barriers. 

Pallavi gained her PhD in 2016 from the University of Durham. Her thesis evaluated the impact of STEM enrichment and enhancement activities in improving attainment and participation of students. Making use of the National Pupil Database the study looked at students qualifying for various deprivation indicators. In addition to the secondary data analysis, the thesis included a systematic review exploring factors linked to the underachievement of students in maths and science in school.

For the doctoral project, she received the ESRC impact acceleration award (2016), the Norman Richardson award (2014-15) and the Ustinov award (2014-15).
