Exeter PGCE students train to become Duke of Edinburgh Award Leaders

Students on the Secondary PGCE course at the University of Exeter were given the opportunity to undertake the Introduction to the DofE Training course in December 2011. The course provided students with an understanding of the full DofE programme structure and the different roles a Duke of Edinburgh Leader performs.

After an initial presentation, around thirty students took up the opportunity to do the one-day training course. It was an enjoyable and informative course that engaged students with role play activities, giving a taste of what being a Leader is really like.

The Employability Officer for the College of Social Sciences and International studies explained why this course was offered.

“With financial support from the Annual Fund, the employability access grant has given us the opportunity to subsidise this course for our Secondary PGCE students. Those trainee teachers now have extra valuable skills and experience that will help them stand out in the competitive teaching jobs market.”
