Global Careers focus: Working in the Middle East

Exeter alumnus Chris Innes-Hopkins is currently the Director of the Saudi British Joint Business Council (SBJBC) and has worked for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London, Jerusalem and Turkey. During the talk, titled 'Working in the Middle East', Chris gave an interesting insight into the range of government and business roles he has had in Tunisia, Egypt, Palestine, Turkey, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia as well as discussing internships with the SBJBC. Chris also discussed opportunities for working in the Middle East, providing useful advice to students considering a career in this region. This included advising on types of activities students can get involved in to enhance their CV for working abroad, as well as on how to adapt to a new country and its culture. After Chris’ talk, an engaging Q&A session took place with students asking about all aspects of Chris' career. Becky Kilsby, Careers Consultant in the Business School, supported the event by contributing to the discussion drawing on her own experience of working in the fields of Education and Arts in Dubai.
