Students from the College of Social Sciences and International Studies receive internship bursaries

With the support of the Annual Fund, the College of Social Sciences and International Studies has been able to award a series of internship bursaries to student. Students were invited to submit a proposal stating why their internship would benefit both their academic study and future career.  As Aimee Dawson (pictured second from right) explains;

"I have been accepted on a placement at The Crossway Foundation on an independent arts initiative called East of Arabia. I believe that this internship will enhance my employability prospects as when I graduate I hope to go into the field of Islamic art and culture.  Whilst I am tailoring my degree in this direction by taking relevant modules where available, I believe this internship will demonstrate my skills and interest in this field in a more practical way. I hope to be able to use my Arabic language skills and make contacts in the art world"

Other students are taking placements overseas in Egypt, South Africa, America and China. From translation work to working on a law and human rights project, the variety of work the students will undertake in the next few months is impressive and we shall be hearing more from them about their experiences.

Closer to home, MA European Politics student, Andrew Dimmock, has secured a short placement in London at the European Commission Representation in the United Kingdom which will directly assist with his dissertation research. A further six politics undergraduate students have been accepted on our Westminster Politics Internship Programme and will be supported with bursaries.
