The aim of the course is to expose you to a wide variety of approaches to the study of the contemporary Middle East, with a particular emphasis on topics such as art and architecture, gender, language and literature, and colonialism. Given the large number of academics involved in delivering this module, the structure of the individual seminars is rather flexible, although it will always include a significant amount of active student participation, as is expected at the MA level.
