Programme overview
This Masters programme is designed for graduates with no prior knowledge of ethno-politics as well as those who would like to develop their understanding of this profoundly important subject.
Our programme will enable you to acquire extensive knowledge and critical understanding of key contemporary ethno-political issues, concepts and theories. Through the exploration of a range of case studies from around the world, you will also gain experience of applying these theories to real-life policies and practices.
Throughout the programme you will be encouraged to develop and demonstrate independent analytical thinking, and will learn to locate, assess and use secondary and primary sources relevant to ethno-political studies.
As such, this programme allows you to experience its research dimension while at the same time developing a range of skills which will enable you to address issues in the field of ethno-politics; skills with a range of potential professional applications.
The MA in Ethno-Politics is taught at the University by a Centre dedicated to this field of study: the Exeter Centre in Ethno Political Studies (EXCEPS). Established in 2007 to bring together political scientists, historians, and geographers, EXCEPS enables interdisciplinary study of the role of ethnic groups in political developments, and the manner in which ethnicity is presented in politics and society. This specialist centre provides a learning environment where you will benefit from teaching led by cutting-edge ethnopolitical research.
We are now taking applications for this programme.
