An interdisciplinary conference exploring the aspirations of and challenges facing the peoples of the Arabian Peninsula, Iran, and Iraq.
This conference immediately followed the British Society for Middle Eastern Studies (BRISMES) Annual Conference 2011, which took place on 27–29 June, in Exeter.

All abstracts (except when requested otherwise) are available unrestricted. Papers are available only by password – sent to those registered for the conference only.
Key dates
January 20, 2011 | Last day to submit your paper or panel proposal. |
February 28, 2011 | Notification of successful proposals |
May 12, 2011 | Last day to register for the conference. |
May 30, 2011 | Last day to submit your full paper. Note: Your paper should be in Word format, 1.5-spaced, 12-point, with your name, affiliation, and email address underneath your paper’s title. Please include footnotes and a bibliography |
June 27–29, 2011 | BRISMES 2011 at the University of Exeter |
June 29, 2011 | Gulf Studies Conference begins (Wednesday) |

Please register for the conference by May 12.
Accommodation
If you would prefer not to stay on the University campus, you can book alternative accommodation.
