Middle Eastern Studies Early Career Researchers Network (MESnet)

Workshop Invitation

 

MESnet invites applications from PhD candidates and postdoctoral fellows in the field of Middle Eastern Studies to participate in an Early Career Researchers’ Workshop on 31 October – 1 November 2015 at the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies, University of Exeter. The workshop is jointly organised by the IAIS and BRISMES and is funded by the British Academy.

 

The workshop is a two-day event and is organised as follows:

 

Day 1: “Career Development”

Presentations and roundtables on the following topics:

  • Middle Eastern Studies Today
  • Research Impact & Relevance
  • Getting Published
  • Careers with a Middle Eastern Studies PhD
  • Digital Networking and Social Media
  • Research Problems

Confirmed speakers include:

 

Day 2: Academic Conference

  • 15 participants present papers on any aspect of their research.
  • Each paper will receive detailed feedback from a senior academic (this is in addition to feedback and comments offered by the audience on the day).
  • All areas of Middle Eastern Studies are welcome.
  • Panels will be decided upon receipt of abstracts.

 

Registration for presenters is now closed.

Travel and accommodation expenses will be covered for presenting participants.

Note that presenting participants will be required to submit their papers by 30 September 2015 to be circulated among assessors in advance of the workshop.
