Employability and Outreach Manager

The role of Employability and Outreach Manager is extremely varied. I arrange events and presentations given by employers and alumni who wish to either inspire students with stories of their own career progression or provide an insight in to a particular profession or business. I also organise special skills sessions and mock interviews. These events often count towards the Exeter Award take place at both the Streatham and Penryn campuses.

I deliver an introductory lecture and a lecture on professionalism in the workplace for the Learning from Work Experience module, which is the first ever cross-college module and on the institute of Arab and Islamic Studies' work placement module. Working with academic colleagues is important. I aim to complement the academic programme with my initiatives.  Managing the paperwork for the students on placements for this and other modules is also within my work remit.

Working closely with Career Zone is crucial.  I help promote and deliver key activities, Exeter Award initiatives, fairs and provide information about the services of our specialist Careers Consultants.

Current student have access to "My Brilliant Career" which is an online resource designed to hold lots of useful and interesting information which is directly relevant to students in the College of Social Sciences and International Studies. Included are details of graduate vacancies, recent talks, opportunities to work or study overseas, links for international students to find out more about working in the UK,  information about writing CVs and much more. We also have a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Exetercssisemployability

The students I work with are in Law, Politics and International Relations, Sociology, Philosophy, Anthropology, Arab and Islamic Studies and the Graduate School of Education.

In 2012 I was nominated for a teaching award in the category of Best Employability Support.

In 2015 I became an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
