About us

Welcome to the University of Exeter Law School.  We are an ambitious, dynamic and friendly law school delivering a first class legal education, offering some of the most sought after law courses in the country. Based in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK, we offer a cosmopolitan teaching environment attracting students, staff and visiting scholars from around the world. Our portfolio of degrees and extra-curricular activities, such as mooting, pro bono work, study tours and work placements, offer unrivalled opportunities to gain invaluable legal experience both at home and abroad and promise to offer a unique experience in as well as out of the classroom. We have an outstanding reputation internationally for our research, with exciting prospects in  human rights, international law,  intellectual property, legal history and European law.

We offer a challenging and extremely rewarding education in law at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels with unrivalled opportunities to study abroad in addition to a host of extra-curricular activities.

Research

We have an international reputation in research across a range of areas.  The School has three long standing research groupings: Family Law, Legal History and International and Human Rights Law. It is currently developing its profile in European Law and Science, Culture and the Law.

Research Assessment Exercise

In the latest Research Assessment Exercise (2008), the UK government’s main measure of quality of universities’ research, 75 per cent of research from the Law School was judged to be of international quality, with 45 per cent rated as either world leading or internationally excellent.

Career development

Preparation for employment, both in the legal profession and outside, is a key part of all our programmes. We have an outstanding record of placing our graduates in employment and rank 10% above the national average. The Law School benefits from a network of contacts locally, nationally and internationally who attend our annual Law Careers Fair. Our alumni are very keen to offer internships to Exeter law students and we are able to provide a variety of work placements.

Extra-Curricular events

We offer an unparalleled number of activities to help broaden your career development as well as offering a number of social and sporting events. These include mooting, pro bono, our award-nominated Debt Literacy Programme, the Law Clinic, work placements as well as events organised by the Bracton Law Society.
