‘International’ at the University of Exeter Law School

The University of Exeter is at the forefront of global collaboration and is actively pursuing this as a strategy. The Law School is integral to this international approach which is clearly evidenced in our teaching and research. We believe in engaging with partners overseas in order to provide both students and staff with unrivalled opportunities in a number of leading universities across Europe, North America and Asia.

The Law School offers a dynamic environment in which to study and we attract an increasing number of students from a range of countries globally, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Our multicultural academic teaching staff come to Exeter from around the world and this is reflected in the international nature of our research.

At undergraduate level we are able to offer a number of innovative degrees allowing international study, including our pioneering Maitrise (Master 1)/Magister programmes. Students who have studied abroad demonstrate initiative, independence, motivation and, depending on where you choose to study, may also gain a working knowledge of another language – all qualities employers are looking for.

At postgraduate level we offer a range of taught courses with an international focus, including European Law, International Business Law and International Human Rights Law.

At the Law School we believe in ensuring students develop outstanding employment prospects during their time at Exeter. We offer a variety of study tours which allow you to see first-hand the workings of EU or UN institutions. You will have the opportunity to attend sessions and discussions, engage with speakers as well as network with members.

The Law School is pleased to offer a number of international work placements. We have developed links with five law firms in China, all of which offer internships and welcome applications from Exeter law students.  As well as help establish placement opportunities, we also provide assistance to students searching for their own placements and internships and benefit from extensive international contacts and alumni.

During 2011, the University of Exeter again hosted our three week . The Law Summer School is designed to offer a unique introduction to some of the key aspects of English, European and International Law. In addition it aims to provide an insight into British and European culture and thought with an opportunity to reflect on some of the key themes in the current global agenda.

The Law School has a long-standing partnership with China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL).  CUPL is regarded as a top-ranked university for Law in China.  The two institutions recently signed an agreement which will see CUPL students spend the second year of their Chinese Master's degree completing a full LLM at the University of Exeter.  Students from CUPL are currently benefitting from Exeter's legal and financial expertise by studying the LLM International Commercial Law. For the last three years, Exeter students studying Law and the Social Sciences have gone to CUPL for a tailor-made Summer programme. Members of Exeter's academic faculty have accompanied them so as to develop research links.

As part of our strategy to increase our international reach, we have recently appointed a dedicated representative in Canada. Please visit our Canada pages for more details of how to meet us and our representatives. See what our students say.
