On 9th March 2012, Justice of The Supreme Court, The Right Hon the Baroness Hale of Richmond led a charity walk from the Law School at the University of Exeter's Streatham campus to the County Court to raise money for the recently established Community Legal Helpdesk.

The Law School is delighted to welcome Dr Gilles Guiheux, Directeur de l’Institut de Preparation a l’Administration Generale, University of Rennes 1, to Exeter. Dr Guiheux will present a series of seminars and tutorials in French Constitutional Law and French Administrative Law as well as an information session for students reading the Maitrise (Master 1) next academic session. This is in the context of the Law School's flagship programme LLB (European) / Maitrise (Master 1).

Annual Dodderidge Lecture - 'Mapping the Law'

The Law School is delighted to welcome Professor Michael Lobban (Queen Mary, University of London) to Exeter for the Annual Dodderidge Lecture on 23 February 2012. Professor Lobban's lecture is entitled "Mapping the Law" and will take place in the Bateman Lecture Theatre (Building One) at 17.30. A Wine Reception will follow.

International Visiting Fellow

The Law School is pleased to welcome Dr V. S. Elizabeth (National Law School of India University, Bangalore) to Exeter in March 2012 under the University's International Visiting Fellowship scheme. Dr Elizabeth will be delivering a public lecture entitled "Social reform laws in colonial India and women's empowerment".

Masters of the Moot are National Champions.

Two third year LLB students, Michael Standing and James White have won the prestigious Inner Temple Inter-Varsity Mooting Competition.  The current Masters of the Moot, fought off stiff competition thorough a number of rounds from universities from across the United Kingdom, securing a unanimous victory in the grand final, judged by barristers Trevor Burke QC and Alistair Hodge.

Legislating on Shared Parenting

Professor Liz Trinder, writing in The Guardian on the 7th February 2012 has warned of the dangers of legislating on shared parenting. Professor Trinder is part of the Law School's Network on Family, Regulation and Society.

Dr Bosch Awarded Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy

The Law School is delighted to announce that Dr Greta Bosch has been awarded a Senior Fellowship by the Higher Education Academy via the University of Exeter ASPIRE scheme - a fellowship granted for leaders in education.

Professor Chantal Stebbings (Exeter Law School) has been awarded funding of over £100,000 by the Wellcome Trust for a major interdisciplinary two year project entitled Tax and Quacks.

Network on Family, Regulation and Society - Further Funding Success

Anne Barlow and Liz Trinder in the School of Law have been awarded £123,000 by the Leverhulme Trust to lead an International Network on New Families, New Governance over three years.

This year's Bracton Law Lecture was held on 30 November 2011. The speaker was Professor Richard Susskind OBE and his lecture was entitled 'Access to justice, legal education, and 21st century legal service'.

The Bracton Law Society hosted an Introduction to Mooting Day, kindly sponsored by magic circle law firm, Slaughter & May. The event took place on Wednesday 19th October, and was attended by just under 200 people. This was an excellent opportunity for those keen to get involved with mooting in a relaxed and focused environment to do so.

Kid’s moot rocks!
