Bracton Law Society Touch Rugby Match: Students vs Staff

Congratulations to the BLS for winning 2-0 against the Law School Staff in a touch rugby match on 1st June.

An unseasonable wet and windy summer’s evening was the setting for the Law School’s first annual Staff v Students Touch Rugby match. The weather didn’t prevent a large crowd of staff and students eager to cheer on the teams.

A highly competitive team of law staff had been assembled include James Devenney, Greta Bosh, Nathan Tamblyn, and James Griffin, to only mention a few.

The students started the game brightly coming close to scoring within the opening minute. Much of the game was played in the staff half, but this territorial dominance could only be converted into a one point lead at the break. Some bright moments of the half for the staff resulted in Nathan Tamblyn coming within a metre of the student’s try line.

The second half witnessed an improved display from the staff line up with Thomas Dunk coming very close to scoring from a quick re-start. However, the strength of the student’s team was too much for tiring legs of the staff as a quick break ensured they scored the winning try. Victory for the students was followed by a presentation and trophy for the winners.

After the competition of the match; players, spectators and the refereeing team heading into the dry for a traditional indoor BBQ and drinks social event hosted by the BLS and sponsored by Linklaters. This was the perfect back drop for further analysis and discussion of the match over Pimm’s and burgers.

A big thanks to the Bracton Law Society, Linklaters, and to the Law School for a successful event.
