Programme overview

The LLM in European Law at Exeter, one of the first of its kind in Europe, aims to provide you with a thorough knowledge of European Union constitutional and substantive law. Our modules focus on the role and interaction of European institutions in the lawmaking process; the relationship between European law and national law; judicial remedies; comparative aspects relevant to an understanding of European Union law; as well as a range of specialised areas of substantive European law including European constitutionalism and European private law.

This programme will enable you to tailor your learning by selecting from a wide range of modules, including:

Please check this website for the availability of modules in the year you choose to study.

You may also take modules from Masters level programmes offered elsewhere in the University, providing you with the opportunity to study European Union Law from an interdisciplinary perspective.

The programme is taught by members of staff who are affiliated to the long-established Centre for European Legal Studies. Like all postgraduate Law students at the University of Exeter, you will have the opportunity to participate in a study tour to see at first-hand the workings of the institutions of the European Union and the Council of Europe.

We are now taking applications for this programme.

There are a lot of factors that make the University of Exeter a unique place to study Law: the unique European Tour and other tours such as Geneva; the big nice green campus in a lovely area; the number of international students and English courses offered; and the large number of sports facilities and societies.
