Programme overview
The LLM in International Commercial Law offers you unrivalled opportunities to study across a range of modules taught by leading academics in their field. This enables you to have access to the most topical, academically rigorous and professionally relevant courses in a variety of subjects most applicable to international business law. These include:
- Maritime law
- Commercial law
- Intellectual property law
- Banking and finance law
The aim of the programme is to provide you with both subject-specific and transferable skills which will you will find highly beneficial whichever future career you decide upon. You will be able to effectively evaluate and interpret the principal sources of law relevant to the international commercial environment. You will gain excellent commercial awareness, allowing you to apply your legal knowledge to situations of practical complexity and to provide reasoned and arguable conclusions.
The nature of the group learning that we offer, with a strong focus on student participation, fosters an academically challenging but supportive community atmosphere. This is further strengthened by the opportunities to participate in international mooting competitions, our skills training programme, visit to the European Institutions and, of course, the active student led social life.
We have close and active links with Exeter Law School alumni and honorary doctorates, many of whom occupy powerful and prestigious roles in the legal community throughout the world. Where possible, we invite individuals from this community and the broader legal community, to engage with our postgraduate students, whether through research seminars or more informal events, thus providing our students with valuable networking opportunities.
Like all postgraduate Law students at the University of Exeter, you will have the opportunity to go on a study tour to see at first hand the workings of the institutions of the European Union and the Council of Europe.
We are now taking applications for this programme.
The great thing about my programme is that it has concrete applications, as I experienced during my summer placement last year. Knowing the law is one thing; then you have to be able to see where the problem is and how you can solve it. I like the contact with clients and trying to help them find solutions to their problems.
