Hazel has First Class degrees in Law from Oxford University at undergraduate and postgraduate level. She is also a barrister.

Hazel taught at Southampton, Cambridge and Oxford Universities, before arriving at Exeter in October 2002. She has also practised at the Bar and worked in industry.
