Overview

Satoshi Nakaide is a Professor of School of Commerce, Waseda University, Tokyo.

After graduating from Hitotsubashi University in 1981, Satoshi joined the Tokio Marine and Fire Insurance Company and worked for it over 28 years.  He was the Leader of its Compliance Group and became the Head of its Legal Department responsible for its legal affairs of the Tokio Marine Group including its overseas operation.  In 2009, he retired the Tokio Marine and became the Associate Professor of Waseda University and became its professor in 2013. He was the Assistant Dean of the School of Commerce from 2010 to 2012 and the Associate Dean of Center for International Education, Waseda University, from 2012 to 2015. In 2015, higher doctorate degree was awarded to him by Waseda University.

He obtained LL.M. from London School of Economics and Political Science and Diploma in Legal Studies from Cambridge University.

Satoshi loves music and plays the piano and enjoys improvisation of piano music as a hobby.

Research

Satoshi’s main interest is insurance law including law on the regulation of insurance business. He has published a number of books and articles in these areas.  He was awarded two academic prizes in 2012.

He is one of the leading experts on marine insurance law in Japan and has been contributing to the law reform of the Japanese Commercial Code on marine insurance as well as to the reform of the fishing boat and fisherman insurance system in Japan.

He is the Vice-Chairman of the Marine Insurance Working Group of the International Association of Insurance Law (AIDA).
