Programme overview
Programme Director: Dr Sue Prince
This is our most popular degree programme and takes three years full-time to complete. It is fully accredited by the Law Society and Bar Council and covers all the foundation subjects that are required to pass the Academic Stage that forms part of the professional qualification as a barrister or solicitor. On graduation you will be able proceed to the Solicitors’ Legal Practice Course or Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC). After a core first year, the programme becomes increasingly flexible in years two and three. You can choose modules from a diverse set of options and design a programme to suit your developing interests.
You will have opportunities to see law from a variety of perspectives and to gain practical experience of law in action. For example, through the Introduction to Law first year module you will learn about the legal system and legal profession and you will work in a group to analyse legal institutions such as the courts, lawyers, or tribunals by visiting them and talking to relevant personnel in order to see and analyse how they work. You will also have the option to choose between a work experience or an advocacy option, both of which will help you to develop your personal, legal and academic skills and enable you to articulate them. Students have worked in the Devon Law Centre, law courts and the chambers of London barristers.
As part of a strategy to strengthen the School of Law, the LLB in Cornwall will move to the Streatham Campus in Exeter from 2013. The aim is to concentrate the teaching expertise and research resources of both campuses in one location, improving module choice across the School and enhancing the student experience.
If you join us as an LLB student in Cornwall in September 2011 you will spend your first and second years in Cornwall and your final year at the Streatham Campus where you will benefit from the changes we are making.

Study abroad
Opportunities to study abroad are available through our LLB with European Study and LLB with International Study degrees in Exeter, and our LLB with European Study and LLB with International Study degrees in Cornwall.
The Cornwall Campus provides a very supportive learning atmosphere. The programme is challenging and you are obviously expected to do most of the learning yourself, however, there is always help and support if there is a concept you cannot grasp. On top of this, the opportunity for feedback on assessments, both formative and non-formative, is fantastic. Read Fay's full profile.
