I have been given the opportunity to develop a broad range of skills through community projects, voluntary work and societies. These abilities added to the LLB European/Maîtrise will make me leave university with real job prospects and have made me grow personally. Read Anne’s full profile.

The offer of this programme at Exeter, comprising an English law degree and a French Maîtrise en Droit, was one of the main reasons that I was originally attracted to the University. Having studied French at A level and wanting to continue with the language, the programme seemed like the perfect combination of law and French, providing an edge to many other programmes offered by other universities. I’m currently unsure what I hope to accomplish after my degree, however the University are continually running presentations to aid my decision process and help make it all a little easier and a lot less daunting! A good mix of employer presentations and providing information of the Bar and the LPC is helping me to reach an informed decision. The Law Society also organise trips, for example to the Inns of Court, so hopefully I will be able to make a decision as to what I want to achieve after my degree. Read Abigail's full profile.

Exeter has a very good reputation as a university. I am a mature student with two small children so my choices were more limited; I was very happy that Exeter was within my options. The teaching standard is excellent as the lecturers are all involved in research; writing their own papers, articles and books. Read Tamsin's full profile.

The double LLB/Maîtrise degree deserves the great reputation it has at the University of Exeter. It has given me the ability to think in two completely different ways because of the great differences between the two legal systems. Our French law class constitutes a small, dynamic group, and therefore the teaching feels very personal, each class being more like a workshop, with great interaction between us and the lecturer. As a native French speaker, the language was not a problem, though my non-native classmates have improved incredibly fast. The atmosphere is great, and we are all looking forward to our upcoming final year in Rennes. The LLB/Maîtrise is a fantastic, intellectually stimulating degree, and its reputation at Exeter is excellent.

One of the highlights of my programme has been the human rights module, which has allowed me to study a subject I have always been really interested in and has given me the chance to develop my own research ideas. After finishing my LLB I hope to go on and do a LLM in Human Rights and/or European Law, and without the chances I have been given from attending this programme it would not have been possible to develop these interests. I chose the LLB European (Magister) as it is a perfect concept to combine German language skills with my wish to study law. It is a stimulating course in which the combination of English and German Law is useful in all areas of study. As a native English speaker the course is demanding but the interaction in tutorials furthers my German language ability and fluency in the language is definitely not a necessity. I am really excited about spending a year abroad as part of this course to benefit from full emersion in the language. The course is also useful for the future as it is viewed with great prestige by potential employers.

I have found that the programme provides an excellent combination of tutorials and lectures, which allows students to put their knowledge to the test whilst debating countless issues and learning how to express legal views in French. I really feel that the lectures have thoroughly prepared us for our year in Rennes. Read Victoria’s full profile.

The Cornwall Campus provides a very supportive learning atmosphere. The programme is challenging and you are obviously expected to do most of the learning yourself, however, there is always help and support if there is a concept you cannot grasp. On top of this, the opportunity for feedback on assessments, both formative and non-formative, is fantastic. Read Fay's full profile.

I can't emphasise how good this programme has been, and how good a setting Exeter is to study it in. The people and the campus, coupled with the quality of teaching and the content of the course, mean I couldn't recommend it any higher. I'm glad the strong language element apparent in the course description and details didn't deter me from applying, and I'd encourage anyone who is interested to go for it. Read Aaron's full profile.

I chose the LLB European/Magister course out of a desire to go beyond an LLB. Studying a civil law system in juxtaposition with our English one has given me an insight into how and why law works that I could never have achieved otherwise. Even though I had only A level German, I found the course quite manageable: understanding was never too much of an issue with our groups. Now that I look forward to an unbeatable year abroad, I have never been more pleased that I chose this course.
Alfred Perkins, LLB European (German) / Magister (Streatham Campus)

I chose to do the LLB European/Magister course because I knew that it would be challenging but at the same time, interesting as you learn the law from the perspective of another country. It is certainly a course that will set you apart from other law students! There are so many oppurtunities for students with languages; for example, I am spending the summer in Berlin doing an internship - all expenses paid! Although learning German Law can be challenging, the course is very rewarding, especially when you realise how much your German has actually improved.
