Academic Representation elections – nominate yourself now!

The academic representation elections are currently underway. You can nominate yourself until 16:00 on Thursday 2 October. Voting will then be open from 09:00 on Monday 6 October.

The SSIS college are looking for committed students from all courses and years to act as a Subject Chair or Rep for their modules and course and become a part of the Staff Student Liaison Committee. The Student Staff Liaison Committee, often known as the SSLC, is the heart of the academic representation system at Exeter. Each department has an SSLC where staff and students meet up each term to discuss any academic issues and to ensure that every student has an exceptional educational experience during their time at Exeter.

Our elected representatives help ensure that every student is able to shape their degree and the University has a long-standing record of acting upon the feedback they are given. Therefore, if you have any concerns about your course or ideas for improvements, being an academic representative is the opportunity for you. In addition to tackling the issues you want changed, it is a fantastic opportunity to work on behalf of your fellow students to improve the academic experience for all.

It is the responsibility of the academic reps to find out what educational issues are important to their peer group and to bring these to the attention of staff at meetings. This can include anything from not receiving feedback on assessments in a timely fashion, to wanting to purchase new equipment to enhance your learning. Reps need to be able to argue the case for change and clearly communicate the opinion of the student body to the staff in their department. The Subject Chair oversees this process and makes sure that all of the reps have the support they need to do their jobs successfully.

If you are interested in standing for any of the positions please go to http://www.exeterguild.org/elections/posts/210/ to submit your nomination by 16:00 on Thursday 2 October.
