Penryn Politics students learn about working in the third sector
Students at the Penryn campus attended a lively networking reception and panel discussion event in late November to find out more about third sector careers. The “Careers that Make Society Work” event brought together a trainee social worker, a care home group marketing and operations co-ordinator, head of development at a housing association and business development manager for a consultancy which helps NGOs with communications and training.
Panellist shared stories of their own career paths; the further qualifications they obtained or are currently are studying for, the internships and career changes that have influenced their career journey. Our speakers advised students on how to build their CVs with valuable experience and how to approach interviews. There was also a discussion on the challenges of working in tough environments such as social work or in care homes, and the support you get as a new employee.
Our panellists spoke passionately about the personal satisfaction you gain from working in small, grass-roots organisations, and the opportunities available to graduates to progress quickly in areas such as marketing and business development.
A big thank you goes out to the panellists for providing such relevant career insights in to areas that help students widen their career options.
