Exeter Law School Professor Appointed to Prestigious US Advisory Body
Professor Michael Schmitt has been reappointed to another two-year term on the US Department of State’s Advisory Committee on International Law.
The Committee consists of a select group of distinguished American law professors, legal practitioners, and legal policy-makers.
It convenes at least semi-annually to offer the Secretary of State and the Office of the Legal Adviser with its thoughts on pressing issues of international law of significance to the United States government.
Additionally, Professor Schmitt spent the week of 27 September directing a capacity building course on international cyber law for government lawyers and policy makers from 13 countries at the Marshall Center in Germany.
Sponsored by the US Department of State and the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this was one of a series of courses directed by Schmitt that are being held around the world to raise awareness of how international law applies in cyberspace.
The final 2018 stops in the program, known as the Hague Process, are Mexico, Panama and Australia.
