Leading Chinese professor visits Exeter Law School

University of Exeter and Wuhan University both belong among the world-leading institutions in international cyber law. Several Exeter academics have been involved in the development of the Tallinn Manual 2.0 on the International Law Applicable to Cyber Operations, including the director of the project, Professor Michael Schmitt. Professor Huang, one of the members of the International Group of Experts that had produced the Manual, recently completed the full translation of the 600-page volume into Chinese. He has also collaborated with another Exeter academic, Dr Kubo Mačák, on a long-term research project into the rule of law in cyberspace, the findings of which were published in the Chinese Journal of International Law in 2017.

On 14 May 2018, Professor Huang met with the Head of the Law School Richard Edwards, Dr Mačák, and Richard Foord (International Office) to discuss further academic collaboration between the two institutions. It was agreed that a joint Wuhan-Exeter research group on international cyber law would be established in the near future and the attendees considered the modalities of possible staff and student academic exchanges. A detailed announcement of the exact form of the partnership is expected in autumn 2018.
