Arabic in Action

Years: 6-11
Location: In your school
Duration: varied

Arabic in Action is a school-based, academic-led outreach initiative for students in primary or secondary school, between the year groups 6-11. This project is supported by the Institute of Arab & Islamic Studies (IAIS) who can provide an academic or PhD student to work alongside students in a school environment over a period of 1-10 weeks depending on the requirements of the participating school.

Students will receive a series of interactive workshops and lessons delivered by Arabic-speaking staff and students from the university. Session content will introduce your students to written and spoken Arabic, in a contextual setting such as personal names, the alphabet, food and social greetings.

These sessions are ideal for those wishing to develop and extend the language offerings at their school, either during the school day as a one-off event or offered as a sustained after-school language programme.

Students who have recently participated on this programme gave the following feedback:

E Moss (year 8) said, It was a very good start to the course, I learnt lots of new Arabic letters and I found it quite easy to learn.  I liked working with the older students from Exeter University.

D Carr (year 8) commented, A great first night, I liked the teacher, she got a lot done in the lesson and it was well paced so I understood it.  The students from the university were great when I got stuck.  I am definitely looking forward to next Thursday.
