Welcome to all new undergraduate students studying in Exeter, and arriving in Autumn 2017

Welcome to the Department of Politics!

With over fifty full-time faculty members across two campuses, we are one of the largest departments in the UK. We are also one of the most diverse groups of scholars in the country, specialising in all of the major sub-fields of political studies, including public policy, international relations, political theory, and comparative politics.

During your studies of Politics and/or International Relations, you will first learn the 'core' elements of the disciplines, through a combination of lectures and tutorials. In your final year, as well as undertaking a supervised independent study project in your dissertation, which will be supervised by an expert in the field, you will have the opportunity to study topics that interest you in much greater depth, in our seminar-based, third-year modules, which are inspired by the cutting-edge research of our faculty members.

We hope your time studying with us will be intellectually stimulating and that you will be exposed to new ways of thinking about and understanding political phenomena. We also hope that your time at Exeter will be hugely enjoyable and the department regularly engages with the Politics Society, organising social events and having guest speakers from both academia and the world of politics.
