MA European Politics

Programme overview

The MA in European Politics addresses key issues in European governance including EU policy-making, federalism, democratisation / constitutionalism, and European identity. Taught at the University’s Centre for European Governance (CEG), this programme will provide you with detailed knowledge and advanced critical understanding of the political process of European Union integration, its origins, dynamics and prospects within a rigorous theoretical and empirical framework.

As a student on this programme you will have the option of participating in two study tours: the first in February, to visit EU institutions in Brussels, Strasbourg and Luxembourg; the second to the annual SUNY Model EU simulation, which usually takes place in April.

Location

This programme is based at Streatham Campus, Exeter, in the United Kingdom. You will have the option of spending your entire period of study at Exeter, or if you prefer you may apply to spend one term at the Centre d’études européennes de Sciences Po in Paris, France. We have three places per year to offer on our Sciences Po programme, and these places are allocated on a competitive basis. You would not need French in order to participate in the period of study in France, as students given the opportunity to go to Sciences Po will have the option of taking modules in French or English, or a combination of both.

Duration

You may study the MA in European Politics over 12 months as a full-time student, or 24 months as a part-time student.

Teaching takes place over three terms followed by completion of the dissertation over the summer (June to September) - this will be the summer of your second year if you choose to study as a part-time student.
