Professor Alison Harcourt has been granted the Award of Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences

Professor Harcourt, Director of the Centre for European Governance, specialises regulatory change in communications markets and is interested in solutions to regulatory problems based around the citizen/consumer and/or civil society voice. She has written on the regulation of traditional and new media markets and internet governance at EU and international levels contributing to the literature on agenda setting, regulatory competition, soft governance, Europeanisation, policy transfer and policy convergence.

Being a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences means that a peer group has reviewed the standing and impact of one’s work and found it worthy of the award of Fellow. Typically, the award would not be conferred until the person being nominated is in at least mid career, with significant achievements to their name, and they must have contributed to social science more broadly than the normal demands of their job. This contribution can be in the areas of thought leadership, practical application or policy development.
