About the research
exetreme imagination is the name of Exeter’s children’s literature festival, first held in November 2010. Its title was devised by a Youth Steering Group from St James High School which helped the organisers to devise and plan a successful city- and county-wide event, a week-long festival of over 120 events celebrating reading and writing for and by children, attended by approximately 3000 people. The second, more ambitious festival, co-funded (as was the first) by the Arts Council, Exeter Council and The University of Exeter, and supported by Literature Works, the South West’s literature development agency, ran over half term in February 2013. exetreme imagination brings together in partnership all Exeter’s main arts organisations to celebrate writing for children and writing by children.
The legacy plan is to hold a biennial festival which excites and engages children and their families in the processes of reading and writing.
