Professor of Political Science

Jeffrey Karp specializes in research on public opinion and elections, and political behaviour.

He is Director of the Centre for Elections, Media, and Parties (CEMaP) and Postgraduate Coordinator of the Masters of Research Programme (MRes) in Politics. He is also the Principal Investigator of a four year ESRC grant (of £289,712) that began in 2010 to facilitate research and training in the area of Comparative Cross-National Electoral Research (CCNER).  

His research appears in the following academic journals:  British Journal of Political Science, Journal of Politics, Electoral Studies, Comparative Political Studies, Public Opinion Quarterly, Political Research Quarterly, European Journal of Political Research, Political Behavior, Political Pyschology, Political Studies, Party Politics, Journal of Elections, Public Opinion & Parties, Australian Journal of Political Science, Journal of European Public Policy, American Politics Research, Presidential Studies Quarterly, Representation, and Acta Politica. He has also edited or co-authored three books on New Zealand elections and is a contributor to a number of edited volumes, such as Citizens, Context, and Choice: How Context Shapes Citizens' Electoral Choices (2011), The Comparative Study of Electoral Systems (2009), Designing Democratic Government: Making Institutions Work (2008), and Diversity in Democracy: Minority Representation in the United States (2005). He has held positions at universities in the United States, New Zealand, and the Netherlands and teaches courses on American politics, electoral politics, and methodology.
