Research Interests

I am interested in the way different relationships between people and organisations encourage or inhibit action on environmental concerns.

Most recently I have considered conflictual relationships among those involved in contention over the culling of badgers through the lenses of 'diplomacy' (following Bruno Latour and Isabelle Stengers), and 'attention' (following Iris Murdoch). See my book.

My PhD thesis on how the environmental movement influenced climate change in Britain between 1986 and 2008 discussed environmental contention looked from the angle of outsider politics. Insider politics was the topic of the Comparing Climate Policy Networks project, and I have explored science networks with a group of biogeographers working on the ecology of Lake Baikal in Russia.
