The module will involve theoretical and practical training in research methods (including  secondary data analysis, questionnaires/surveys, document analysis, interviews, participant observation  and case studies) and the development of a research proposal. In addition to lectures on each of these research methods, students work in small groups deploying a range of research methodologies to their own set of research questions. Most of the teaching takes place in small groups within hands-on workshops, in which students design research tools, and analyse their own data (that they collect for themselves in between the formal sessions). The module is useful for all students hoping to produce a robust piece of work for their final year dissertations, and for those seeking to boost their employability.

No prior knowledge skills or experience are required to take this module and it is suitable for specialist and non-specialist students. The module is suitable for students on interdisciplinary pathways.
