British politics is in the midst of a tempest. Brexit — Britain’s imminent withdrawal from the European Union — not only threatens to undo decades of European integration, but has also further emboldened Scottish nationalists and destabilised the constitutional order of the UK. What is more, this follows on the heels of the worst global financial crisis since the Great Depression. This module will help you understand this moment of crisis by charting the most significant developments in British politics over the past century, and by considering the key issues and challenges facing political elites in Britain today.

There are no pre- or co-requisites for this module. It is suitable for students specialising in politics, but is also recommended for students on interdisciplinary pathways that include politics.
