New anthropology lecturer wins Teaching Award

New Anthropology lecturer Dr. Samantha Hurn has been awarded the Association of Social Anthropologists Higher Education Academy national award for excellence in teaching anthropology 2011/12.

Dr. Hurn joins us from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David where she was the programme coordinator for the undergraduate anthropology and post-graduate anthrozoology programmes. The award recognises Dr. Hurn’s excellence across the full range of criteria set out in the UK Professional Standards Framework (http://www.heacademy.ac.uk/ukpsf) and her efforts in enthusing students about anthropology.

The judges highlighted her success in including fieldwork in the anthropology programme at all levels and her innovative approaches to assessment. In addition Dr. Hurn was commended for developing a “strategic vision for sustaining an anthropological community through online journals, residencies and other innovations”.
