About the research

The aim of this study is to examine lesson planning and reviewing processes in relation to teachers’ understandings of learner difference and diversity.

The main objectives of the research are:

  • To explore how teachers’ understandings and knowledge around learner diversity influence their lesson planning.
  • To examine how teachers, whose teaching is nominated as high quality, conceive and cater for diversity in their lesson plans.
  • To investigate how the planning, in relation to areas of learner diversity, becomes enacted and to what extent.
  • To explore how the planning process itself influences teachers’ understandings of learner difference.

Dr Alison Black will lead the project, liaising with schools and teachers and data collection and analysis, supported by Professor Brahm Norwich and Dr Hazel Lawson.
