Professor (Anthropology and Sociology)
Mike Michael is a sociologist of science and technology. His research interests have included: the relation of everyday life to technoscience; biotechnological and biomedical innovation and culture; the public understanding of/engagement with science; and process methodology. Recent projects have addressed the complexities of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis clinical trials (with Marsha Rosengarten), the interdisciplinary use of sociological and speculative design techniques to engage with energy demand reduction (with Bill Gaver and Jennifer Gabrys). His current research explores the role of aesthetics in the co-emergence of innovation, materials and publics, and the development of speculative methods.
