Research Interests

I am a theoretical sociologist with an interest in social and cultural theory. My specialist areas of interest include:

  • Historical cultural sociology, particularly in the area of Anglo-Italian cultural interchange
  • Social theory and the uses and appropriation of social theory by sociologists
  • Civic Sociology

Review work

I was associate editor for the journal Cultural Sociology (Sage) from 2009 – 2013.

I have undertaken work as a reviewer for Cultural Sociology, Journal of Anglo-Italian Studies, Distinktion: The Scandinavian Journal of Social Theory and Journal of Common Market Studies

I have reviewed chapters for Giddens' Sociology (7th and 8th editions) and Contemporary Sociology (Polity Press).

I was an academic consultant for Dorling Kinderlsey Publication on an introductory sociology/ social theory text entitled The Sociology Book: Big Ideas Simply Explained – Jul. 2014 to Feb. 2015.

Research Supervision

I am presently lead supervisor for a doctoral thesis that is a critical genealogy of discourses of sustainability within architectural theory from approximately 1960 onwards. The student is presently in the writing up stage.
