Dean, College of Social Sciences and International Studies
Since I joined the University of Exeter in 2000, I have held a number of senior management jobs, including the Headship of the School of Geography, Archaeology and Earth Resources, and the Deanship of the Faculty of Graduate Research. In the latter role, I was the Exeter lead-academic on the successful ESRC South-West Doctoral Training Centre (SWDTC) collaborative bid with the Universities of Bristol and Bath.
My aspiration for the College of Social Sciences and International Studies is to attain and retain a Top 10 position for all the disciplines in the College, and to develop an environment in which leading research and excellent education are encouraged to flourish. This is not an easy task in the current higher education environment, but I hope to be able to provide the College with leadership that is strategic, effective, fair and consistent, and enables colleagues in Law, Politics, the Graduate School of Education, Sociology and Philosophy, and the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies, to achieve their aspirations. I will endeavour to give a voice to all colleagues in the College, and I hope to do all this with energy and enthusiasm for our work.
