Welcome from Dr Rob Freathy, Associate Dean
On behalf of all the College staff, welcome to the new academic year 2016/17 and to those of you starting at the University for the first time, congratulations on gaining a place on one of our popular programmes.
The College of Social Sciences and International Studies was established on 1st August 2010 combining the University of Exeter’s well-established social science disciplines of Law (School of Law), Politics, Strategy and Security (Strategy and Security Institute), Sociology, Philosophy, Anthropology, Arab and Islamic Studies (Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies) and Education (Graduate School of Education). It is an exciting time of staff and student growth and development of both our undergraduate and postgraduate programme portfolios.
The disciplines in the College have a reputation for excellence in higher education and all staff, alumni and your immediate peers are proud to uphold this tradition. We are sited on three campuses – Streatham, St Luke’s and Penryn – and share generic campus facilities with other Colleges as well as enjoying our own College-specific facilities and resources.
This handbook contains necessary information to help you to successfully navigate your programme of study. We encourage you to read it carefully.
We hope that you will find your time here at the College of Social Sciences and International Studies rewarding and enjoyable.
Dr Rob Freathy, Associate Dean Education
