What Can I Do?

The College Employability Team works with the Career Zone to offer you opportunities to improve your prospects once you’ve graduated.  To access the online resource, you need to follow this link to Career Zone and follow the instructions to set your preferences.

Here are some of the things that you can do to make yourself more employable:

  • The first thing you should do is book an appointment with a Careers Consultant.  This will give you the opportunity to talk to a specialist about your aspirations, ambitions and interests.  If these are already clear to you, then the Careers Consultant will help you to develop a plan of action. If you are unsure, then talking to someone can help you sift through the possibilities and decide what you want to do.
  • Find out about employability events, for example, through our Employability Newsletter, and book onto them through the Exeter Award.  The Exeter Award is designed to enhance the employability of University of Exeter graduates by providing official recognition and evidence of extra-curricular activities and achievements.
  • There are definite do’s and don’ts to writing a CV and Covering Letter. Get yours up to scratch with the career zone CV and Covering Letter review service, accessible by logging in through the career zone.
  • Practice your interview techniques with an interview skills session or a mock interview with local employers, accessible by logging in through the career zone.
  • Ask an eXepert!  The University eXepert scheme links current students with Exeter Alumni who are working in a particular sector, so that the student can ask questions and gain information on any particular career choice.
  • Do an internship or work experience.  This might be in a field you want to work in once you graduate, or maybe you just want to find out a bit more about a certain job.  Either way, having some experience of working will make you stand out from the crowd once you have graduated, no matter what you go on to do.  You can also find details of internships and work experience posted on the My Brilliant Career page on ELE
  • And finally, find a job! Advertisements for all types of work: global opportunities, casual work, and graduate jobs.
