The module focuses on the history of Iran since 1970, explaining the revolution of 1979 and the history of the Islamic Republic since then. Only a few university institutions in the UK offer this kind of course on recent Iranian history, which provides a necessary background to current events and problems of pressing international importance. There are no essential pre-requisites for the course, but students engaging with it will find it helpful at least to have studied the module covering the previous period of Iranian history, ARAM 210, with which it is paired.
