The course will help you understand and evaluate how law might protect the environment in the wider context of environmental policy.  You will be asked to reflect on why law attempts to regulate activity that might have impacts on the environment and to consider both the different types of regulation employed and the environmental media (land, air and water) that the law looks to protect. As part of this, you will be asked to examine where harm to human health fits into the environmental law framework. You will be able to question how successful environmental regulation is and explore some of the problems of enforcement. You will review how international law obligations are taken up both in EU and UK law.
