SSI2002: Data Analysis in the Workplace

This module descriptor refers to the 2022/3 academic year.

Module Aims

This will provide you with an opportunity to apply quantitative research methods learned in your degree in a professional environment. The module aims to develop your commercial awareness by reflecting on the nature of an organization; and the context within which that organization operates and your role within it. It will also familiarize you with the employment practices of application and recruitment, induction, health and safety procedures and self-appraisal.

On successfully completing the programme you will be able to:
Module-Specific Skills1. Define the process of job acquisition and be able to source a placement or job opportunity for yourself;
2. Demonstrate understanding of the commercial environment within which companies operate and its impact;
Discipline-Specific Skills3. Demonstrate understanding of the social, economic, cultural and administrative considerations which influence employment settings for social science graduates;
4. Collect information for yourself, manage information and select appropriate social science data and research strategies for application within an employment setting;
Personal and Key Skills5. Produce information to make yourself attractive to future employers and present this information in CVs, applications and interviews; and
6. Demonstrate practical work based skills and experience and the ability to recognise the skills needed in relation to particular job/career opportunities.
