Module Content

Syllabus Plan

Whilst the module’s precise content and order of syllabus coverage may vary, it is envisaged that it will include the following topics:

  • The history of the compulsory insurance regime in the UK, from the Road Traffic Act 1930 to the Road Traffic Act 1988.
  • The relationship between the insuring obligation and liability imposed by tort law.
  • The scheme for compensating the victims of uninsured and untraced drivers.
  • Third party claims against insurers.
  • The approach of the judiciary to European law consistent construction of our national law provision.
  • Insurance challenges due to the introduction of autonomous vehicles
  • Proposed systems of insurance to counter these challenges
  • The introduction of the Automated and Electric Vehicles Bill
