SOCM032: Emerging Issues in STS

This module descriptor refers to the 2018/9 academic year.

Module Aims

This module provides a critical assessment of the history of emerging conceptual issues in STS along selected practice-oriented research projects.  It aims to inspire a genuine interdisciplinary engagement with the research and scholarship of STS and beyond.

On successfully completing the programme you will be able to:
Module-Specific Skills1. Demonstrate in writing and orally a detailed awareness and comprehension of emerging issues that link Science, Technology and Society
2. Recognize the empirical and conceptual contribution of the social sciences to the analysis of science and technology, and its contribution to other disciplines
3. Critically evaluate in writing and orally the diversity of specialised techniques and approaches involved in the research of issues in Science and Technology Studies

5. Identify and assess the empirical usefulness of different conceptual and methodological approaches
