The module will focus on navigating the specific professional development needs of early career teachers in their first few years of teaching. It will provide continuity in supporting teachers’ learning journeys at the beginning of their careers in integrating theory with practice. The module will aim to promote your agency by supporting you, as an early career teacher, in managing your own teaching and learning in schools. The module will explore: your beliefs and values about teaching and learning, effective pedagogy, supporting aspirational practice, development of subject expertise and looking at future roles.
The module design will appreciate that as learners you have different needs and will support you in focusing on your own context, building on your previous experiences of learning and teaching. The module encourages active reflection on practice and theory with a focus on pedagogy alongside policy. Independent, collaborative and peer-to-peer learning is also encouraged. You need to be an NQT or in the first few years of teaching and in current practice to undertake this module.
