In this module you will focus on the provision and practice for pupils designated as having special educational needs in England. The emphasis in this module is on the school system and the way legislation and policy are implemented in the classroom – for example, in relation to SEN categorization, labelling, multi-agency working, staff roles. The module includes three separate single day visits to each of a mainstream primary school, a mainstream secondary school and a special school. It also includes a two week observational and experiential placement in a school. This module thus strongly supports students in connecting theory and practice.
