The Israel-Palestine conflict has now raged for over one hundred years, constituting one of the most contentious and protracted conflicts of modern time. This module approaches the question of the conflict’s intractability by focusing on different regimes, spaces, agencies, technologies and linguistic constructions of violence in the conflict. Through the lens of International Relations and Peace and Conflict Studies scholarship, you will engage with, and critique, the varying theoretical understandings and explanations for violence, and apply them to analyse the various political nexuses between different modalities of violence and the protraction of the conflict. Through interactive seminars that will involve Skype sessions with non-governmental and grassroot organisations in Israel and Palestine, you will have an opportunity to engage with a variety of voices, viewpoints, and perspectives on the Israel-Palestine conflict.
No prior knowledge skills or experience are required to take this module. The module is suitable for specialist and non-specialist students.
